WHAT IS ART ? Art is something we do, a verb. Art is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires, but it is even more personal than that: it’s about sharing the way we experience the world, which for many is an extension of personality. PAINTINGS BY GREAT ARTISTS

Painting is an ancient medium and even with the introduction of photography, film and digital technology, it still has remained a persistent mode of expression. So many paintings have been limned over dozens of millennia that only a relatively small percentage of them could be construed as "timeless classics" that have become familiar to the public—and not coincidentally produced by some of the most famous artists of all time.

Each of my blogs on the paintings of great artists examines the following themes:

  • A critical analysis of the artists key works
  • The life of each artist through their most famous paintings
  • Their social and historical background
  • The sources of their inspiration
  • The development of their technique
  • Thy they deserve their recognition as one of the greatest artists of their time.
